25% of new worms in 2010 are designed specifically to spread through USB devices

I just saw this article here:

25% of new worms in 2010 are designed specifically to spread through USB devices

    * 48% of SMBs worldwide are infected every year. A third of these infections are caused by worms that spread on USB devices
    * This is just one of the findings of the Second International SMB Security Barometer, which surveyed 10,470 companies across Europe, Latin America and North America

According to PandaLabs, in 2010, 25% of new worms have been specifically designed to spread through USB storage devices connected to computers. These types of threats can copy themselves to any device capable of storing information: cell phones, external hard drives, DVDs, flash memories, MP3/4 players, etc.

The data gathered suggests that this distribution technique is highly effective, as according to the Second International SMB Security Barometer, published by Panda Security -which surveyed 10,470 companies across 20 countries-, some 48% of SMBs (with up to 1,000 computers) admit to having been infected by some type of malware over the last year. Specifically, 27% confirmed that the source of the infection was a USB device connected to a computer.
You can read the full article here, if you're interested.

Hope the new security products would take care of these worms.

Usb is the common medium for spreading. Disable autorun.inf file mapping and stop autoplay. Little bit safe .
I don't need to know everything, I just need to know where to find it, when I need it.

That's why my old company declared the use of USB sticks as illegal in the workplace.
Disable autorun.inf file mapping and stop autoplay
sensible advice. I wonder how many will do it....

yet when i plugged my usb to a infected PC , it autirun and my USB was infected (though not to worry as my panda av detected 100 threads and removed all ... surprising was after installing emsisoft it would 2 more )

PandaLabs: A Quarter of Worms Spread through USB Devices

Most computer users have probably found themselves at the wrong end of a malware-infected USB flash drive at least once. In fact, as US Deputy Defense Secretary William J. Lynn III recently revealed, even the mighty US military has firsthand experience of the damage a rogue USB flash drive can cause. Their ubiquity has made portable storage devices the ideal carriers for computer worms. But how popular exactly are they among malware authors? Panda Security's research arm PandaLabs claims to possess the answer.
